Kayaking and the lifestyle that accompanies it have led Joe to some of the most inspirational places and inspirational people. Although he finds it difficult to express what draws him to rivers so strongly, he is thankful for that draw and considers himself incredibly lucky to be able to pursue his passion.
Joe was 11 years old when he first found whitewater kayaking. After his first trip down the Cartecay River, he knew he had been undoubtedly hooked. At the age of 16, Joe discovered the realms of creek boating and squirt boating. His mind became fascinated with the new dimensions that were opened to explore. It was at this point that he began to understand the greater picture—he became more aware of the importance of what he saw in the river’s currents. It became clear to him that the river had the desire to flow and that he could do the same. During the Spring of 2010, Joe met Jeff West and his paddling career took a new turn. That summer, Joe began instructing at Ace Kayaking School. He discovered that not only does he love kayaking, but he also loves sharing it with others.
